Does the chef visit the table during the dining experience?

The chef at Twenty-Eight Atlantic, James Hackney, loves hearing from his diners, so it’s likely you’ll see him around the dining room during your meal at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant. Hackney has a vast background in farm-to-table menus. He’s also very familiar with local New England fare, so no question is off limits when he approaches your table. It’s likely Hackney will come out and check on your meal during or after your service; and for those with special occasions, he might even bring out something to complement your big evening.

What is the food presentation like at Mooo?

©XVBeacon While Mooo might exude a trendy vibe, the food is done simply and presented with classic sophistication. There are no frilly flowers or plants adorning the plates here. The food speaks for itself, and that’s exactly how chef David Hutton wants you to experience it. Your steak will appear perfectly cooked and ungarnished on a white plate, alongside a side of bone marrow stuffed with butter garlic. All sides are just that — placed on the side and in their own dish.

What are the petit fours or mignardise served at Mooo?

Dining at Mooo is always an experience, but the surprise gifts from the kitchen are what make it one of our favorite dining experiences in Boston. After a meal of oysters, salads, steak and seafood, finished off with a rich dessert or homemade sorbet, Mooo takes it one step further with homemade Mallomars. These chocolate-covered treats will arrive with your check, and you’ll have a hard time forgetting about them — even after you leave the restaurant. We have just one caveat about them: They’re so terrific we wish they were offered as a dessert option on the menu.

©XVBeacon The table settings in the dining area and bar at Mooo are set differently, so where you dine will determine what’s in front of you. What is the interior design of Mooo?

©XVBeacon Step into the sexy, sultry space at XV Beacon and you’ll almost forget you’re in a steakhouse. Mooo has a very neutral background — beige walls and wood tables — but adds Five-Star ambience with chandeliers that glow gold and add a sheen. The main lights are turned up during the day, so it’s brighter in the Boston restaurant and makes for a more casual experience for breakfast and lunch diners.

What are some of the specialty cocktails available at Mooo?

© The Five Star Travel Corporation Few things go better with a dry-rubbed sirloin than a dry gin martini; but if you want something with a little more pizzazz, the cocktail menu at Mooo is more than up to the challenge. In addition to traditional favorites like Pimm’s, Absolut-fueled peach iced tea and strawberry lemonade (made with strawberry Stoli), there are a few specialty cocktails you might enjoy. Try the black & blue — a combination of black and blue berries, Bacardi, Malibu, crème de cassis and fresh lime. The spice and ice is made with Don Julio Banco, mango puree, ginger and jalapeño syrup, and fresh lime. If you’re in the mood for something minty, we can tell you with certainty that the bar staff at Mooo makes a mean mojito.

What are five things I should know about Mooo?

? The Five Star Travel Corporation You'll be greeted at Mooo by the smell of fresh-baked rolls, peppered steaks and the refreshing sound of ice being shaken in a tumbler — the better to administer a perfectly chilled martini. Once you've taken a seat, however, you'll have a hard time leaving. Mooo is more than a steakhouse — it's a social spot. There are a few other things you should know about it:

    1. Bar area. The bar area at Mooo is one of the highlights of the restaurant. Anchoring the front of the space, the bar fills up almost every night of the week with people dining barside and quaffing cocktails before they're seated in the main dining room. If you want to just nibble at the bar rather than wait for a table, there's a separate bar menu (we suggest the Kobe beef sliders or the oysters).

    2. Wine dinners. Mooo hosts wine dinners throughout the year that feature a particular vintage or vineyard, combined with a four- or five-course meal. These dinners give you the chance to chat with Mooo's chef, as well as some local vintners. The wine dinners are typically $150 per person, but they can fluctuate based on the type of wine being served.

    3. Menus. Mooo has two menus: one for the main dining room and one for the bar. The bar menu has $15 entrées and $7.50 appetizers; the main menu is mostly à la carte, so you will choose your steak and then your sides, and pay for each separately. Of course, Mooo has more than just steak (its name notwithstanding). The menu changes seasonally to spotlight different fresh seafood specials and change up the appetizers. There is no set kids or allergy-specific menu, but the kitchen is superb at accommodating just about any request.

    4. Wine cellar. At one point, the cellar provided all the wines for the restaurant and its adjoining XV Beacon hotel, but it now functions only as the steakhouse's private dining room. If you host a private affair or attend one of Mooo's wine dinners, then you'll be lucky enough to experience the wine cellar's singular ambience.

    5. Prix fixe dinner. On Sunday and Monday nights, Mooo offers a three-course prix fixe menu for $45, which doesn't include tax or gratuity. The courses usually highlight the most-requested items from the menu (e.g., clam chowder, New York sirloin and the chocolate brownie sundae), or the specials of the day.

    Is Mooo good for dates?

The lively bar at Mooo is a great spot for first dates as well as for couples who are still in the getting-to-know-you stages and want to impress with a trendy spot. Grab two seats at the bar and share some appetizers and a bottle of wine over good conversation. For an impressive date night, order a plate of oysters and a bottle of champagne or white wine and let the evening take its course.

Does Mooo have a children’s menu?

Mooo does not offer a set children’s menu, but when you call for a reservation, let the restaurant know the age of your child — including whether he or she has any food allergies or favorite foods. The kitchen is always happy to accommodate your young foodie with everything from burgers to chicken fingers and fries. We’re willing to bet, however, that your little one will fall in love with the Boston restaurant's mac and cheese (also available for adults, thankfully).
