No matter the itinerary for your next Las Vegas getaway, the performance schedule for Zarkana, the latest Cirque du Soleil show to hit the Strip, is certainly flexible enough to enable you to squeeze in a show. Beginning with preview performances on Nov. 1, 2012, and the grand opening on Nov. 11, 2012, Zarkana will hit the stage at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star ARIA Resort & Casino Friday through Tuesday with 7 and 9:30 p.m. performances. There will be no shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Cirque du Soleil shows are always packed with incredible feats, but I was particularly amazed by one Zarkana act involving — of all things — ladders. Amazingly, one of the male performers was able to climb a ladder (think the kind of ladder you lean up against your house to reach the roof) that leaned on nothing. After he’d climbed a number of rungs, a female performer climbed the same ladder and then stepped onto and balanced on top of the male performer’s head (not his shoulders). But it didn’t stop there. Another performer below then handed the male performer standing on the ladder a second ladder with a point at the bottom that he then balanced on his head, while the female performer proceeded to climb it. I’m still stumped as to how any of this was humanly possible. -

Zarkana features some of the most unique performance acts around. In addition to the amazing high-energy specialties of trapeze, high-wire and wheel of death, there is an incredible live sand-painter and beautiful dueling pianos. Original music by Elton John’s protégé Nick Littlemore is performed by live musicians on stage. Visually stunning LED screens that measure 90 feet wide by 40 feet tall have more than 3 million pixels! -
