What is the dress code at Canaletto?
Canaletto has a casual to fine-dining vibe, so you’ll see fellow diners in attire ranging from a T-shirt and shorts to jackets for men and dresses for women. The dress code often depends on the time of day you visit, though the Las Vegas restaurant doesn’t permit gentlemen to dine in sleeveless shirts after 4 p.m. Otherwise, Canaletto enjoys the lively atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square on the canal level of The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. So if you choose to sit out on the patio area, you’ll be able to take in the entertainment and people-watching in the recreated piazza while you enjoy a terrific meal.

What are desserts like at Canaletto?
The desserts at Canaletto span the flavors of fruity, chocolaty and custardy (if that’s a word), offering a variety of traditional Venetian favorites to round out the bunch. We need to start the dessert discussion with the sgroppino, a mix of vodka, lemon sorbet, prosecco and a dash of cream. Venetians typically finish meals with this drink, though many other Italians transition into dessert through sgroppino as well.
From there, your options include the bianco mangiare al frutti di bosco, an almond custard covered with caramel, toasted almonds and fresh berries; the zabaione alla gritti, a chilled light custard with fresh berries, Bellini sorbet, whipped cream, cherry and baicoli cookies; the crespelle di mele, crepes filled with apples, pastry cream, walnuts, sorbet and caramel sauce; tiramisu, which is actually made in individual orders, instead of sliced from a cake; gelato; and the colombina al cioccolato, a dark chocolate mousse topped with fresh raspberry and kiwi sauces and shavings of white and dark chocolate.
If you can’t make up your mind, how about ordering three desserts? The dolce trio gives you half a colombina al cioccolato, half a tiramisu and one crespelle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The trio gives you a small tour of Canaletto’s dessert offerings — and provides you with the perfect dish to share as you finish up your Venetian-style meal.
And don’t forget about the coffee. No traditional Italian meal is complete without an espresso-based drink, whether you choose a cappuccino or a caffe latte. So if we could make one recommendation for dessert at Canaletto, it’d be this: Save room. -

Does Canaletto have a kids menu?
Unfortunately, Canaletto doesn’t have a kids menu. However, your little ones will find plenty of items to suit them, and the Las Vegas restaurant can also cater dishes specifically toward younger diners. The kitchen staff at Canaletto can make smaller pizzas and half orders of pasta with either cream or marinara sauce, creating simpler dishes for pickier palates. And, of course, the restaurant offers a number of delicious dessert options, so kids will have another reason to dine at Canaletto. As an added bonus, during the day, they’ll be able to see the shows that take place in the middle of St. Mark’s Square, with views of the Grand Canal and its gondolas — a surefire way to keep fussy kids settled and entertained. So while Canaletto doesn’t offer a dedicated kids menu, it still has plenty of options and amenities to provide the entire family a terrific Venetian meal. -

Is Canaletto a romantic restaurant?
When the lights in St. Mark’s Square go down at 6 p.m., all the restaurants in the area gain an extra level of romance — Canaletto included. The lights inside the main dining room dim as well, amping up the sense of intimacy and privacy inside the Las Vegas restaurant. If you’ve planned a romantic date at Canaletto, we recommend sitting in the dining room, as opposed to the patio area, since the dining room has less noise and fewer diners to contend with. We can’t think of a more romantic end to your meal at Canaletto than sharing the tiramisu as you overlook the Grand Canal and gondolas floating by. You’ll feel far from the glitz and lights of Las Vegas, without having to travel farther than the second floor of The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. -

What is the menu like at Canaletto?
Canaletto, named after famous Venetian artists Giovanni Antonio Canal, plays up its Venetian motif — whether you’re talking about the restaurant’s cuisine or its location near the Grand Canal inside The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. To that end, executive chef Maurizio Mazzon, a native of Venice, along with chef-partner Gianpaolo Putzo, recreate many northern Italian favorites in the quaint Las Vegas restaurant where the Grand Canal and St. Mark’s Square meet. The menu is about 80 percent Venetian cuisine, with some meat sauces and Tuscan-style dishes. You’ll have your choice of antipasti, such as carpaccio con ruchetta, thinly sliced raw beef with wild arugula, capers, grana Padano and lemon olive oil dressing, and insalate (salads) such as the insalata di pere, made with arugula, radicchio, frisee, grilled pears, grapes, Belgian endive, crumbled blue cheese, toasted pecans and pomegranate dressing.
For entrées, you’ll see pizzas, risottos and gnocchi, as well as pastas, meat, poultry and a fine selection of seafood. This area of the menu is highlighted by dishes like a whole Mediterranean sea bass baked under a salt crust and risotto with shrimp, scallops and fresh Mediterranean cuttlefish with natural black ink. Desserts range from the traditional Venetian sgroppino (vodka, lemon sorbet, prosecco and a dash of cream) to tiramisu served Treviso-style.
Canaletto does a terrific job of translating the cuisine of northern Italy to Las Vegas by way of its elegant dining room or more casual patio area. So you can choose how intimate or bustling you want your meal to be. -

What are the five best things to order at Canaletto?
Canaletto brings you the tastes of authentic Venetian cuisine in Las Vegas, right where The Venetian hotel’s Grand Canal meets with St. Mark’s Square. Aside from all the action and entertainment you’ll see on the restaurant’s patio, Canaletto also offers a number of terrific dishes. Here’s our list of the five best things to order at Canaletto:
1. Risotto. For something different, we’d recommend opting for the seppienere, a risotto made with shrimp, scallops and fresh Mediterranean cuttlefish in natural black ink. But if that’s a little too exotic for you, there are still a few other kinds of risottos to fill you up.
2. Pizza. It’s almost a rite of an Italian restaurant to serve pizzas, and the pizzas at Canaletto give you plenty of options. We like to keep things simple with the margherita, a thin-crust pizza made with mozzarella, oregano, basil and tomato sauce. Though if you’re looking for more toppings, we’d tell you to go with the quattro stagioni, made with imported ham, mushroom, asparagus, artichokes, mozzarella, basil and tomato sauce.
3. Sea bass. Dine on a whole Mediterranean sea bass either baked under a salt crust or grilled. It comes served with seasonal, sautéed vegetables and roasted Yukon gold potatoes.
4. Gnocchi. Don’t underestimate how good simple potato dumplings can be. You can order them with a traditional meat ragu (bolognese) or with marinara and fresh basil (pomodoro). Or go for the quattro formaggi option, which comes with asparagus, shallots, Gorgonzola, Asiago, mascarpone, cream and Trebbiano wine.
5. Sgroppino. The Venetians take this as the best way to finish a meal, but many just use it as an entryway to dessert. However you view this mixture of vodka, lemon sorbet, prosecco and a dash of cream, your palate will be pleased. -

What’s the best table at Canaletto Restaurant?
The best tables at Canaletto are on the restaurant’s patio — table 27 seats eight people, while table 26 is a two-seater. Both tables offer the best views of the shows that perform during the day on St. Mark’s Square. Previously, every table on the patio had an unobstructed view of the shows in the center of the square, but the recent addition of an ice cream stand now forces many diners to crane their necks to see the action. So if you’re in the market for a little entertainment — and want to make your meal even more Venetian — we’d recommend trying to reserve either table 27 or table 26 at Canaletto. We think they’ll give you the most bang for your buck. -

Stop into Canaletto and sit at the bar to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to order off the restaurant’s entire Venetian-style menu. The bar is open during the same hours as the Las Vegas restaurant: Sunday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to midnight. The bar at Canaletto even offers a happy hour Sunday to Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., with $7 pizzas and artisan cocktails, $7 appetizers and $3 domestic beers. So set aside some time in your busy Las Vegas schedule to grab a bite — or a beer — at Canaletto on your way to your next destination. -

What is the price range for a meal at Canaletto?
A meal at Canaletto runs the gamut from just $10 for light bites on the antipasti menu (such as the baccala alla vincentina, the salt cod baked in milk with onion, capers and garlic, served over soft polenta), up to $40 for the costata di manzo, a grilled 22-ounce rib eye steak. In between, you’ll find Venetian specialties envisioned by executive chef Maurizio Mazzon, a native of Venice. Some of his dishes include classic pizzas, risotto, gnocchi, pastas and seafood. We recommend checking out the risotto, such as the Venezia Antica, which is made with asparagus, saffron, chicken breast and Grana Padano. Or treat yourself to some seafood, such as the zuppa di pesce alla chioggiotta, a seafood stew with scampi, prawns, scallops, clams, mussels and fresh fish fillet served with grilled garlic ciabatta. You can easily have a dinner for two at Canaletto for under $100, so don’t hesitate to check out this Las Vegas restaurant where the Grand Canal and St. Mark’s Square meet. -

What is the interior design of Canaletto?
Canaletto is outfitted in a classic Venetian interior design. The Las Vegas restaurant has a northern Italian feel to it, with a focus on Venice, which emanates from the 16-foot ceilings, hardwood floors and exhibition kitchen. The décor is punctuated by glass fixtures from Murano that will help transport you thousands of miles from where you actually sit. This northern Italian feel makes complete sense, given the restaurant’s location on the canal level of The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. Inside the restaurant’s main dining room, you’ll enjoy a number of booths to ensure a quiet, intimate meal; and there are five private rooms upstairs that can seat anywhere from six diners up to 175. As an added bonus, you’ll be able to watch the Grand Canal and the gondolas from the private rooms, further evoking that Venetian (in Italy, not Las Vegas) feel while you dine at Canaletto. -
