Since 1910, The Saint Paul Hotel has set a standard as the grande dame of the city’s hostelries, hosting the rich and famous in style. Designed to impress since its inception, Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Saint Paul Hotel has maintained its commanding presence overlooking a charming urban pocket park and its ornate neighbors. In 1927 it was chosen as the site of a gala dinner to salute Charles Lindbergh upon his Atlantic crossing. During the racy gangster days of the ’20s and ’30s, Al Capone maintained headquarters here. By the late 1930s, Lawrence Welk conducted his champagne music for guests’ entertainment. Not only did actor Gene Autry stay at The Saint Paul for a week in the ’40s, but so did his horse Trigger, demonstrating how the hotel staff meets guests’ every need. A 1980s renovation restored the allure and polish of the hotel with updated amenities; today, the hotel still caters to performers, politicos and other VIPs. St. Paul’s first families, along with the city’s up-and-comers, continue to make its restaurant their clubhouse.

The luxury hotel’s elite neighbors include the gracious Ordway Center for Performing Arts with opera, symphony and theater performances, and Landmark Center, an architectural gem also open to public events, with a skating rink flanking its side. The Mississippi River, X-Cel sports arena, the Convention Center and the Science Museum of Minnesota are nearby as well, as are downtown’s shopping and dining venues. In the near distance rise the twin domes of the State Capitol and the St. Paul Cathedral.
