What are five things I should know about Stein Eriksen Lodge?

Preparing for travel can be overwhelming as you sift through all the information. Here are the five things we think you should keep in mind when considering Stein Eriksen Lodge for your next vacation:

1. The lodge is located at mid-mountain, about 8,500 feet above sea level. This means ski-in/ski-out access and mountain biking right out your back door. But if you aren’t accustomed to high altitudes, you should give your lungs a day or so to adjust before jumping into intense exercise.

2. We recommend packing for heavy outdoor activity. Hiking boots, hats and sunblock will keep you protected out on the trail and bringing a few extra outfits will keep you focused on the adventure, rather than washing your clothes. But the lodge provides overnight laundry service in case you need it.

3. The hotel has a small, but functional, business center right next to the lobby, which has computers, Internet access, fax machines and printers. There are also plenty of outdoor decks and indoor ballrooms where large groups can hold meetings.

4. Utah state alcohol laws require that anyone ordering drinks at a restaurant must also order food, so if you’re planning on sampling some of the onsite restaurants’ cocktails, be sure to bring your appetite.

5. The restaurants at Stein Eriksen Lodge, the Troll Hallen and Glitretind Restaurant are both family-friendly places where you can get quality food and still dress casually. The room service menu includes items from the Glitretind and also has plenty of options for children such as chicken fingers or s’mores on a stick.

    • Rooms at Stein Eriksen Lodge range in size from 375 square feet for a deluxe bedroom to between 1,200 and 4,900 square feet for a one- to five-bedroom luxury suite. All rooms have exterior entrances, so you won’t have to cut across the lobby every time you leave. Thanks to the vaulted ceilings, bedroom areas feel open and roomy.

Facing the wall-mounted flat-screen TVs are one king or two queen-sized beds with comfortable mattresses and several pillows. You’ll find a couple of armchairs and a small workstation off to the side where you can use the free wireless Internet. The bathrooms are stone-tiled, keeping with the hotel’s natural feel, and have both a jetted bathtub and a separate shower with Molton Brown bath products.

Kitchenettes are outfitted with a coffeemaker, microwave and refrigerator; however the fridge doesn’t have anything in it unless you specifically ask for it to be stocked with premade dishes. Many of the rooms also have stone-hearth gas fireplaces and an outside deck with tables, chairs and a private hot tub.

    • Stein Eriksen Lodge’s luxury suites have between one and five bedrooms to house your entire crew of two to 18 people. These rustic suites range in size from 1,200 to 4,900 square feet. Each bedroom has one king-sized or two queen-sized beds. In addition, the suites include top-of-the-line kitchens, dining areas and living rooms complete with stone-hearth fireplaces.

Many suites also come with balconies, window seats and terraces decked out with chairs, tables and a private hot tub. The rooms’ high ceilings keep with the Lodge’s Norwegian style of décor, which also carries over into the stone-tiled bathrooms with oversize jetted tubs and separate showers. The grand suites are similar, but located in the Main Lodge, right near the concierge, restaurants and shops.

Heated to 83 F, the pool is surrounded by a 2,000-square-foot deck filled with lounge chairs — perfect for lying out in warmer months. When temperatures drop, the nearby hot tub and stone-hearth gas fireplace are great for relaxing after an exhausting day on the slopes or gathering to roast s’mores. Pool toys like swim noodles and plastic balls are corralled in a bin on the deck for use by the young and young at heart. In the summer, food and beverage service is available at the pool between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

    • The kids’ room service menu at Stein Eriksen Lodge features many of the same dishes that are offered for kids at Glitretind Restaurant onsite. With options for even the pickiest eaters, you’ll be sure to find something to please your youngsters. Whether the munchkins are chicken finger fiends or healthy eaters, the children’s in-room dining menu showcases plenty of options. If you want to bring the kids back to the days of yore, order a fried bologna and cheese sandwich. Who doesn’t love the classic twist on the traditional grilled cheese? Maybe you want to keep your kids on the healthy train; well you are in luck. Order up the grilled chicken breast with carrots and broccoli. Finish off the meal with a silly dessert like (gummy) worms and dirt.

    • Stein Eriksen Lodge is known for its intimate, all-inclusive wedding services. There are two standard packages available — the Classic Wedding and the Stein Wedding packages — but the wedding coordinators on staff can accommodate custom requests to make your big day truly unique.

Both packages include a one-hour reception with passed hors d’oeuvres, gourmet plated or buffet dinner and wedding cake by the lodge’s award-winning pastry chef. The Classic Wedding also includes complimentary overnight accommodation in the lodge for the bride and groom on their wedding night.

Services and options that can be added to these packages include a dance floor, housemade chocolate wedding favors, a bartender, children’s meals and audio-visual equipment. The Five-Star hotel provides white cotton table linens, votives, napkins and traditional Stein Eriksen Lodge china with both packages.
  • Forbes Inspector answered a question:
    • Each and every room at Stein Eriksen Lodge sports a small refrigerator, with each suite flaunting a full-sized fridge. That being said, unless you arrange something ahead of time, you will find that fridge to be completely empty. Being a Five-Star hotel, the staff is more than happy to provide you with liquor, sodas and bottled water upon request. While you can certainly store your room service leftovers in your fridge, you won’t find any snacks or goodies as a nice surprise. If you are going to be staying for a week to hit the slopes, we suggest you let the concierge know ahead of time to stock your fridge with groceries—any brand you want, the hotel can provide it.

    • Coming to Park City for business isn’t such a bad gig, especially if you are staying at Stein Eriksen Lodge. This Five-Star hotel sports a business center just past the lobby. Outfitted with fax machines, printers and a couple computers with high-speed Internet access, you can get your work done easily so you can hit the slopes. Wireless Internet is also available in guestrooms and throughout the resort. The hotel can increase its bandwidth as needed, so your connection stays speedy.

You can keep your suits sharp between meetings with the Lodge’s overnight laundry, dry-cleaning and pressing services. A complimentary shoeshine is also available through the bell desk.

Plenty of venues are available for large groups to meet, ranging from a 4,000-square-foot ballroom, to an indoor/outdoor meeting room in the Main Lodge with incredible views of Flagstaff Mountain. Rooms are available for private dining and an outdoor terrace with arbors and fireplaces is perfect for mingling afterward.

For a tamer but classic Olympic experience, ride a chair lift to the top of the high-altitude ski jump, located at 7,130 feet above sea level.

Park City Mountain Resort, near Stein Eriksen Lodge, is another source of family-friendly adventures. In the winter, the resort allows skiers and snowboarders — Deer Valley Resort is skiers-only — and summer activities include an alpine slide with a 3,000-foot track, climbing wall, zip line, Human Maze, miniature golf and Legacy Launcher Trampoline.

Stein Eriksen Lodge has ski-in/ski-out access to Deer Valley, one of the top ski resorts in the country. Activities at Deer Valley don’t end when the snow melts. In the spring and summer, the resort has scenic chairlift rides, lift-served mountain biking, hiking and outdoor concerts at the resort’s amphitheater.

    • Situated mid-mountain, Stein Eriksen Lodge flaunts plenty of jogging routes nearby. The loop at Royal Street is a popular half-to-quarter mile run near the property. The route circles around Stein Eriksen Lodge and through the Silver Lake Lodge area of Deer Valley Resort, so watch for traffic (and ice in the winter). You’ll also find a plethora of mountainside trails that can be used for hiking and trail running. Many of these trails are just outside the hotel doors on the slopes of Deer Valley Resort. For more options, use the lodge’s house car service to access the 400 miles of maintained public trails in Park City. Ask the concierge or an employee at Stein Sports for details on paths to follow near the hotel.

    • Besides the fact that Stein Eriksen Lodge’s gym is situated within the spa facility, you’ll find plenty of amenities to make a tough workout that much more rewarding. With TVs built into each cardio machine, you’ll have plenty of distraction to take away from the burn in your muscles. If you forgot your headphones, you may think you are out of luck. Think again because this Five-Star hotel’s gym provides complimentary headphones.

So catching up on sitcoms or catching the latest Sports Center isn’t your thing, that’s no problem. Besides gazing out the windows at the stunning vistas that Park City offers, you can snag one of the magazines or newspapers that are provided and recap the most recent celebrity gossip or world news.

Chilled towels, bottled water and a pitcher of citrus ice water sit out on the counter for you to cool off with after your workout. You can also grab a fresh red or green apple for an energy boost.
  • Forbes Inspector answered a question:
    • Many of the selections on Stein Eriksen Lodge’s 24-hour room service menu are delivered straight from the Four-Star Glitretind Restaurant onsite.

You can start your day off with a more classic breakfast option such as the Glitretind Restaurant breakfast, which comes with two eggs cooked to your liking, your choice of maple-glazed bacon, Idaho ham or country sausage, as well as breakfast potatoes and toast. If you are more of a fancy breakfast kind of person, try the Utah smoked trout egg white frittata, an open faced omelet with cremini mushrooms, spinach, red peppers and smoked trout, and topped with herb crème fraîche.

Later in the day, dishes such as Kobe style pot roast, as well as pea and carrot risotto, are available for room service. Kid-friendly options include simple, tasty dinners like hamburgers and grilled chicken breast, and fun desserts like s’mores on a stick.
  • Forbes Inspector answered a question:
    • Sure, the gym at Stein Eriksen Lodge is located within the spa facility; but that doesn’t mean that the fitness center doesn’t feature its own locker rooms. In fact, the gym flaunts both men’s and women’s locker rooms just across the hall from the fitness center. Complete with grooming areas, showers, bathrooms and, yes, lockers, you can wash up after a tough workout without having to venture back to your room. Though there are a limited number of lockers, chances are you won’t have a problem finding a cubby to store your belongings in while you work out. If you’re looking for a little more luxury, just across the way, the locker rooms at the spa have relaxation areas with saunas and cold plunges.

    • The gym at Stein Eriksen Lodge is located within the spa facility, with men’s and women’s locker rooms right across the hallway. Within the locker rooms are separate bathrooms with showers and a grooming area. The fitness center itself is stocked with equipment from Life Fitness: treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, strength training machines, yoga balls, exercise bands and free weights. Yoga, personal training and fitness classes are available by appointment.

The cardio machines all have built-in TVs with headphones provided for each one. Magazines and newspapers are also available to entertain you while you exercise, though we think the view of nearby villages from the gym is nice enough that you won’t even need reading materials. Bottled water, citrus ice water, fresh apples and chilled towels are presented on the counters.

    • Stein Eriksen Lodge has a 10,000-bottle wine cellar with over 750 different wines. Standout selections served at the bar include Perrier Jouet champagne, WillaKenzie pinot gris, which is from Oregon and J. Lohr cabernet sauvignon, from Monterey, Calif. Sommelier Cara Schwindt is responsible for all of the Lodge’s wine purchases; and with 10,000 bottles, that’s a big task. She can recommend the perfect wine pairing for your dinner menu, as well as a glass that will certainly please your taste buds. She also runs wine seminars where novices and pros alike can visit the cellar and taste some of the Lodge’s local, domestic and international wines.

    • Stein Eriksen Lodge’s Four-Star restaurant, Glitretind Restaurant, serves pan-seared halibut, which is the most popular item on the menu. It’s served with buttered potatoes and spinach, a yellow tomato fondue, hen of the woods mushrooms and topped off with crisp rosemary. The seasonal wild game chili, available only in the winter, is also a crowd-pleaser.

Try other standout selections like the steak and egg tartare, or pea and carrot risotto, or head across the way to the Troll Hallen Lounge to sample the hearty Stein burger or summer wild salmon from their dinner menu. Sommelier Cara Schwindt can recommend the perfect pairing for whatever you choose from the Lodge’s cellar of more than 750 different wines.

    • As you prepare for your stay at Stein Eriksen Lodge, you should keep in mind that this will likely be an active vacation, and you should pack for adventure. Here are the five things you should be sure to pack for a stay at this Park City hotel:

      1. Sunscreen. Complimentary sunblock is available for use at the pool, but we suggest bringing your own to wear for other outside endeavors. The sun is intense up on mountain trails and even in the winter you could get burned by light refracting off the snow.

      2. Mountain wear. Ski gear is essential for the winter months considering the slopes around the lodge are some of the world’s best. More than 15 downhill runs and three cross-country tracks will keep you busy all day.

      3. Extra clothes. With all the outdoor activities available, your clothes will likely get dirty. Pack a few extra outfits so you don’t have to worry about laundry during your stay. Though, if you do find yourself in need of some clean clothes, same-day laundry service is available everyday with the exception of Sundays and holidays.

      4. Bathing suit. A swimsuit will come in handy if you are staying in one of the many rooms with a private hot tub on the terrace, or if you just want to relax in the Lodge’s heated outdoor pool.

      5. Sunday’s best. Bring at least one dressy outfit, in case you get the urge to head down the mountain and visit one of the restaurants or galleries on Park City’s historic Main Street.

  • Situated in the middle of the bedroom at Stein Eriksen Lodge is a luxuriously rustic bed. The thick, comfortable mattress is snuggled against a dark wood headboard, dressed in Frette linens and a soft throw blanket. Plush goose-down pillows cover the bed, calling your name to curl up with a good book and watch the snow fall. Non-allergenic pillows are available to replace the goose down on request. Turndown service is provided twice daily, providing a robe, slippers, bottled water and locally made chocolates. As you slip into the robe and between the soft sheets, you can enjoy your bedtime chocolate treat.
  • Every room at Stein Eriksen Lodge comes standard with an LG flat-screen TV, combination VCR/DVD player, a radio alarm clock, a telephone with voicemail and free high-speed wireless Internet. In-room kitchenettes are outfitted with a refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker with Starbucks coffee to wake you up before you strap on your skis. Room service is available 24 hours a day and includes many dishes from the Lodge’s Four-Star Glitretind Restaurant. In the bathroom, you will find Molton Brown bath products, a jetted tub, separate shower, a hair dryer and a humidifier. Many rooms also have gas fireplaces or, our favorite amenity, a patio with a private hot tub.
