Does Wynn Macau charge any fees?

Wynn Macau doesn’t mess around when it comes to fees; but then again, the Five-Star hotel doesn’t really mess around with anything when it comes to offering you the most luxurious accommodations you can find in Macau. If you remove a mini-bar item for more than 60 seconds, you’ll be charged — this is no joke. The Five-Star hotel doesn’t nickel-and-dime you with charges, but you should note the 10 percent service charge, and five percent government tax on the cost of your stay. You’ll also have to pay for your meals and additional services, such as personal trainers in the Five-Star hotel’s gym. Keep that in mind when planning your budget for Wynn Macau, and be sure to ask the front desk for details about any charges you may incur.

  • Wynn Macau’s cancellation policy depends on what day of the week you’re scheduled to stay. If you’re scheduled to arrive anytime from Sunday to Thursday, you must cancel 24 hours prior to 3 p.m. on your actual arrival date or you’ll be charged the full price on one night’s stay, plus tax.

If you have a reservation for a weekend or holiday stay at the Five-Star hotel, you must cancel at least 72 hours ahead of 3 p.m. of your scheduled day of arrival; otherwise, you’ll be charged one night’s stay plus tax. This practice is fairly standard for Five-Star hotels, so Wynn Macau doesn’t stray from what the level of luxury dictates.
  • The easiest way to get from Macau International Airport to Wynn Macau is by taxi; the trip should last about 20 minutes and cost around MOP50 (US$6.50).

Wynn Macau also offers complimentary shuttle service to the Macau Ferry terminal, Pac On Ferry Terminal and border gate to Zhuhai. When we stayed at Wynn Macau, we took a taxi, as the shuttle is a big bus and cabs don't cost that much in Macau. If you have a lot of luggage, taxis are certainly more convenient and only cost between MOP25 (US$3.25) and MOP50 (US$6.50). If you plan to take a taxi, and you don't speak Cantonese, look for a list of casinos inside the car to tell the cab driver where you're going, or have the name written down before you get in.
  • There’s no need for public transportation when you have a fleet of Bentleys standing at attention at the Five-Star hotel. However, if you do want to roll like a local, Macau has a bus system. Talk to the concierge to figure out the best route, or hop in one of the city’s many taxis.

Wynn Macau also offers complimentary shuttles to and from the Macau and Taipa ferries and the Gongbei Border Gate.
  • We were charmed by everything at Wynn Macau; at every turn, something different wooed us. Here are the five things we loved most about the Five-Star hotel:

    1. Impeccable taste. You get the sense that every detail — from the color schemes to the lighting in the hallways — was thoughtfully chosen. Owner Steve Wynn's fingerprints mark the entire hotel, drawing from his historical successes in Las Vegas.

    2. Comfortable luxury. The Wynn is surprisingly homey. Roger Thomas' stunning design sense extends to the gaming areas, as well. The casinos at Wynn and Encore are large, but the warm colors, large columns, dim lighting and upbeat music give them the look and feel of a private parlor.

    3. Aquarium. Be sure to check out the Moon Jellyfish Aquarium behind the Encore reception desk. To confirm the feeling that no detail was overlooked at this Five-Star hotel, take note that the current in the tank is set exactly to circulate the 1,000 jellyfish in the most aesthetically pleasing way possible.

    4. The spas. The Five-Star hotel has two incredible spas to choose from with varying ambience: Spa at Wynn and Spa at Encore. Both offer an unmatched escape from Macau and can be counted as two of the best spas around.

    5. Encore. The new Encore Tower, which opened in April 2010, is more than a step up from other properties. Even the interiors of the elevators feature delicate silk tapestries embroidered with butterflies. Each floor has 10 spacious suites that offer plenty of privacy and enough space to have friends over for a cocktail.
  • If we had to describe the Five-Star Wynn Macau in five words, we’d use these: grand, preppy, stunning, ostentatious and impeccable. The bold swaths of color, the dramatic and curvy lines, and the one-of-a-kind details at Wynn Macau are over the top in scale and placement (see the two camels facing each other in the pool off the lobby). At the same time, they remain tasteful and at home in the decadent gaming resort. What other luxury hotel can pull off a jellyfish tank behind orange-and-cream striped raw silk curtains, dramatically pulled back on either side with gold cords? The bold designs at Wynn Macau create stunning, memorable spaces.
  • Starting with the red carpet blooming with flowers and leading up to the lobby’s red chandelier and two huge camel statues, the Wynn Macau’s grand design is hard to miss. You’ll be surprised and delighted by all the finer details throughout your stay. Copies of original artworks hang in each room; and in the Encore lobby, you’ll find 1,000 jellyfish in a tank with a dome-shaped chandelier that sparkles simply by reflecting other lights.

Rooms in Wynn Tower feel plush and homey, and are decorated in creams and blush pinks. Each one makes you feel like putting your feet up and sinking into the ambience. Encore has a more ostentatious design, on the other hand; rooms are covered in reds, creams and golds, giving them a distinctly rich and modern feel. You’ll also find a playful butterfly motif throughout Encore — each tower at Wynn Macau have its own feel and ambience, so choose the one that best suits your style.
  • The pool at Wynn Macau has an array of lounges to choose from, including circular chairs (with or without bonnets) and oversized square lounges with thick cushions — have your pick! If you plan on ordering a meal from Café Esplanada, try to get one of the cabanas that have a table and chairs. An attendant will also make sure you have enough towels, sunscreen and water to keep you comfortable.

Heads up: The pool locker room is quite small and doesn’t have a dedicated space to change. This might prove problematic for Encore guests who have to trek through the luxury shops and/or casinos to get to the pool. So if you’ll want lots of pool time during your stay at Wynn Macau, you’ll want to opt for a room at Wynn instead of Encore.
  • Wynn Macau does not have planned activities per se, but you won’t be lacking for things to do and see around the Five-Star hotel. Aside from shopping, make sure to catch one of the permanently installed shows at the Rotunda, Tree of Prosperity and Dragon of Fortune. They happen every 30 minutes and give you the chance to see awed audience members throw money at the spectacle. You can also grab a seat at Ristorante il Teatro for a prime view of Wynn Macau’s water show, which is choreographed to music and goes off throughout the day outside of the Five-Star hotel.
  • There are a total of 1,009 rooms at Wynn Macau. Wynn Tower has 595 of those rooms, with 360 Deluxe (or standard) rooms and 100 Grand Salon Suites for Wynn Club members (members have access to the Wynn Club entrance and Wynn Club Lounge). The Tower also has 120 one-bedroom suites and 15 two-bedroom suites. If you’re staying in one of the Tower suites, check in at the Wynn Club reception to gain access to the Wynn Club Lounge.

At Encore Tower, there are 410 suites and four villas. Of these suites, 369 are deluxe (or standard) and 41 are grand salon suites. The grand salon suites include a bedroom, living room and massage room. Another perk to staying in these luxurious suites is that you can check in at the VIP reception desk (off to the right of Encore’s main reception area). So while you’ll get Five-Star service and amenities throughout the hotel, you can expect a stratospheric level of luxury in the higher-end suites at Wynn Macau.
  • When it comes down to it, Wynn Tower rooms and Wynn Club rooms at Wynn Macau are generally the same — staying in a Wynn Club room just carries more cache and grants you access to the Wynn Club entrance and lounge. The 600-square-foot rooms feature a grand marble entrance and a double vanity bathroom off to the side. The blush pinks and creams of the plush couch and chairs are inviting and not too showy. The beds are done up in the signature Wynn way, with a pillow top mattress, Egyptian cotton sheets and feather pillows, and copies of fine, modern art adorn the walls. Additionally, all rooms at Wynn Macau have Desert Bambu bath products with a lemongrass citrus scent; the Five-Star hotel makes sure to take care of all those fine little details.
  • If you’re looking to book a suite at Wynn Macau, you can choose from two towers: Wynn Tower or the new Encore Tower, which opened in April 2010. Suites in Wynn Tower start at 2,000 square feet (two-bedroom suites are 3,000 square feet) and include a bar area, soaking tub with jets, and a room with a massage table. If you stay in a two-bedroom suite, you’ll be impressed by the “his and her” bath and dressing area, which looks more like a spa than a hotel bathroom. The other perk to the two-bedroom suites is that the bedrooms are identical, so there’s no need to feel slighted that you got the short end of the stick. No matter which one you get, you’ll feel welcomed by the room’s warm décor.

If you want to take the glamour level up a notch, book a room at the all-new Encore Tower, which offers only suites. The smallest is 1,100 square feet and includes a foyer, bedroom and living room with a TV that can be viewed from either the bedroom or living room (but not both at once). The Encore grand salon suites are 2,000 square feet and come complete with a walk-in closet, living room, bedroom and spa therapy room. Whether you choose Wynn Tower or Encore Tower at Wynn Macau, you’re guaranteed a level of luxury that only a Five-Star hotel could offer.
  • The beds at Wynn Macau are likely to be a memorable part of your stay at the Five-Star hotel. It starts with the signature Wynn pillow top mattress, that’s covered in special Wynn Egyptian cotton sheets. These luxurious sheets were hand-selected by owner Steve Wynn himself, after spending a year in pursuit of the just the right ones.

Quality and comfort only increase when you move into the more premium rooms at Wynn Macau. Encore grand salon suites have a double pillow top mattress. Our only trouble with the beds at Wynn Macau: We fear that if you lie down, you might never want to get up.
  • All the bathrooms at Wynn Macau have double vanities, a separate tub and shower, and a separate room for the water closet. Ladies will swoon over the comfy chair set up in front of large mirrors — perfect for dolling yourself up in style. Everyone can indulge in the delectably plush towels and the lemongrass citrus bath products from Desert Bambu. As if that weren’t enough to keep you entertained, the bathrooms house a television that you can see from both the sink and the tub. The bathrooms at Wynn Macau are anything but utilitarian, though they offer all the amenities and convenience you’ll need to get in and out as you please.
  • You’ll find just about everything you need in your room at Wynn Macau, and then some. Each room comes with a bowl of fresh fruit, a well-stocked refrigerator and a gorgeous display of mini-bar snacks that include nuts and other healthy options. When you’re ready to kick back, you can try on the luxury hotel’s signature robes and slippers, which feel anything but disposable. The bathroom is stocked with the essential toiletries, including a great disposable razor and shaving cream.

The Five-Star hotel’s rooms also come equipped with iPod docks, bedside curtain and light controls, stationery and pens. Open the closet to discover an ironing board and iron — a small detail, but one that we appreciated during our stay. Strangely, only the most top-notch suites have Nespresso machines, but kettles and tea are provided in every room at Wynn Macau.
  • Each fine dining restaurant at Wynn Macau has a signature menu created by its head chef. So instead of having signature dishes, the restaurants have signature meals. Be sure to try at least one or two of the Five-Star hotel’s restaurants, as everything we ate there was outstanding.

For breakfast, dig into the French toast at Café Esplanada or Café Encore. You can do dim sum at Wing Lei or try some Tan cuisine at Golden Flower, where you can’t go wrong with the jasmine soup, ma po doufu (minced beef) or kung pao chicken. Don’t leave the Five-Star hotel without trying its Hong Kong ice tea at Red 8 and noodles (any way you want them!) at 99 Noodles. Lastly, the pizza bianca at Ristorante il Teatro is a must-try. While Macau has plenty to offer in high-end and Cantonese cuisine, you won’t even have to leave the Wynn Macau to get a taste of some of the best food the region has to offer.
  • The room service menu at Wynn Macau includes food from Wynn and Encore Tower. Among your options: Cantonese wok fried beef noodle, Japanese ramen, stewed vermicelli, beer battered fish and chips and an Angus beef burger. You’ll also find salads, French onion soup, ham and cheese, pastas, steaks, congee varieties, dim sum, rice and noodles. So if you’re feeling hungry but don’t want to change out of your robe, the in-room dining menu at Wynn Macau has you covered any time of day (check out the overnight menu for options served from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.).
  • Wynn Macau opened in 2005, but its gym is just as new and up to date as the rest of the Five-Star hotel. You can break a sweat on its treadmills, bikes, elliptical and stretching machines, or do some heavy lifting with the free weights. If you need help getting motivated, certified personal trainers are available for a scheduled workout. The gym at the Five-Star hotel is rather quiet, so getting a machine is usually not a problem. The minimum age to use the gym is 16 years old. If you just can't miss a good workout, even while pampering yourself in Five-Star luxury, the gym at Wynn Macau definitely has you covered.
  • If you can’t start the day without your morning jog, you’ll find a few routes near Wynn Macau. One option is to run along the Macau-Taipa Bridge (against traffic). The return trip is about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), and you’ll certainly feel a sense of accomplishment when you’re done. For more distance, try extending your jog around Taipa. You can also find more hilly and scenic routes on the peninsula side. Whatever your preference, ask the concierge at Wynn Macau for directions; you might want to drive a little away from the hub of activity to find a more scenic starting point.
