To help its dining room remain blissfully spacious and uncrowded, Herons has 24 tables inside — a moderate amount that gives both waitstaff and diners plenty of room to maneuver. The result is comfortable and cozy; a feeling that's heightened by the restaurant's warm, neutral colors and well-placed artwork.

On warm evenings, you might choose to sit at one of the Five-Star restaurant's seven outdoor tables. The terrace, which is located directly outside Herons' main dining room, is not only an extension of the restaurant, but it also offers its own gorgeous views of The Umstead's three-acre lake, manicured grounds and outdoor swimming pool.
