Does Indaba Spa have a shop to purchase products used during treatments?

Travel Guide Inspector

You’ll see the boutique as soon as you enter Indaba Spa at the Innisbrook Resort. The spa shop is part of the welcome area at the Florida spa, so Forbes Travel Guide editors suggest you arrive a little early for your treatment or stop afterwards to browse the items for sale. Indaba’s spa shop carries products used during the treatments such as the Bella Luce shea butter body products from the Baobab Awakening Ritual and the Pure Fiji Coconut Sugar Scrub used during Coco-Luscious Body Treatment, as well as candles, Jane Iredale mineral makeup featured in the salon and gifts. In addition to the skin care products and makeup available, you’ll also find small gifts like candles, oils, eye masks and flip-flops.

What’s the latest treatment offered at Indaba Spa?

You can always count on Indaba Spa to have new treatments on the spa menu. The concept of the Florida spa at Innisbrook Resort is to incorporate African-inspired rituals and products with Western treatments, paying homage to Indaba’s African philosophy. Each month, the spa features Western and African treatments that correlate to the specific time of the year. Each Western treatment featured on the menu has an African-themed counterpart.

For example, last winter the spa’s Western treatment was a traditional head massage that featured a head massage with special oils. Forbes Travel Guide editors recommend the African version of the treatment:  a Shingo Ritual, in which warm nut oils were massaged into the head while soft tribal music played in the background. While the two treatments are similar, it’s the types of oils and meaning behind the treatments that make each month’s offerings a little unique.

One of the newest treatments at Indaba Spa is the Ultimate Moroccan oil hair treatment, which includes a mask that infuses the hair with the nourishing oil followed by a blowout with a special blow dryer designed to relax frizzy hair.

Can I get treatments in my room at Indaba Spa?

Massage therapists from Indaba Spa can perform a treatment in your room, as long as you’re a guest of Innisbrook Resort. The Florida spa offers in-room massages, which can be booked for 50 or 80 minutes. You can choose from any of the massages on the menu for an in-room treatment. However, the spa charges a $30 supplement for in-room massages; and a particular specialty treatment may not be available in-room if the therapist who performs it isn’t available. Forbes Travel Guide editors suggest sticking with the traditional Deep-Tissue or Swedish massage for your in-room massage choice, and reserving more involved treatments like the Hot Stone massage for the Indaba Spa treatment rooms.

Are there any specialized treatments for men at Indaba Spa?

Men aren’t forgotten at Indaba Spa; the Florida spa at the Innisbrook Resort offers signature treatments that are meant just for them. The Gentleman’s Highland Facial is a 50-minute treatment focuses on soothing the irritated or neglected skin. The esthetician slathers your face with nourishing nutrients to help soften and moisturize the skin. Meanwhile, you’ll be treated to a scalp, neck and shoulder massage to promote relaxation. This customized facial can also include extractions as well as hydration to treat razor burn, fine lines, wrinkles, acne and ingrown hairs.

The Fairways Foot Treatment is a 25-minute treatment that’s designed with a man in mind — it eliminates all the flowery scents of the spa’s standard pedicure and focuses specifically on restoring and moisturizing the feet. It begins with a warm soak and is followed by a peppermint scrub and a massage using hot stones, which relieve muscle tension and reduce swelling. Finally, men can indulge in the High-Shine Buff Manicure and Pedicure. The 30-minute manicure and 50-minute pedicure start with a warm foot soak, followed by a hand or foot massage. As a final step, your nails are clipped, cleaned and buffed.

What unique treatments are available at Indaba Spa?

Indaba Spa almost always features a unique treatment as part of the Florida spa’s monthly specials. The Innisbrook Resort spa takes its cue from African culture; Indaba means “gathering” in Zulu. Every month it offers a new African ritual along with a Western one, so you can experience the best of both worlds.

For example, last winter the spa offered the Shingo Ritual, a head massage that uses warm nut oils while soft tribal music played in the background. A Geranium Ritual is offered in May to help transition the body from spring to summer. African cultures believe geranium oil is a soothing, calming balm that’s helpful for fussy infants and anyone feeling “out of sorts.” In June, the Traditional Royal African Arm Ritual is offered, using African argan oil and acacia cream on pressure points to help relieve stiff and sore muscles. Forbes Travel Guide editors thought the Arm Ritual would make a great gift for Father’s Day, especially for the dad who plays a lot of golf.

What kinds of scrubs are offered at Indaba Spa?

The body scrubs at Indaba Spa are some of the most luxurious you’ll find in the Tampa/Clearwater Beach area of Florida.  Indaba means “gathering” in Zulu, so the spa uses African scents and herbs found in nature to restore the body’s natural healing properties. Simply put: Everything that touches your skin here is good for you, making the scrubs a natural and healing experience.

The traditional Organic Sugar Scrub is 25 minutes and can be performed as a solo treatment or in addition to a massage. Your skin is polished with sugar that is perfumed with the scent of your choice; options include pear and green apple, cucumber mint, apricot and coco-coconut. Forbes Travel Guide editors loved the 50-minute Coco-Luscious Body Treatment, which uses coconut, mango and pineapple enzymes to soften your skin and restore it to its natural state. The Citrus-C Body Treatment features a hydrating wrap as part of the 50-minute treatment. After your skin is scrubbed in cucumber and peppermint to remove dead cells and dryness, you’ll be wrapped in citrus, cucumber and peppermint to hydrate your skin. You’ll end the session with a moisturizer of vitamin C-rich grapefruit and mandarin.

What kinds of nail services are offered at Indaba Spa?

Whether you need a quick nail buff or are looking for a luxurious manicure and pedicure, the salon at Indaba Spa offers a full range of nail services. The salon offers a classic manicure and pedicure for 30 or 50 minutes. But why not try something different and sweeten the experience of getting your hands and pampered with the Coco-Luscious Manicure and Pedicure? You’ll start by soaking in a warm coconut milk bath, which is followed by a coconut scrub for your hands and feet.

The Ice Cream Social Manicure and Pedicure is one of our Forbes Travel Guide editors’ favorite Indaba Spa treatments. The traditional manicure and pedicure is updated with a hand and foot wrap in your choice of products scented like chocolate, caramel or marshmallow. You’ll be treated to a body “icing” (lotion that smells like frosting), as well as a real ice cream cone to savor while you’re being pampered. What kinds of wraps are offered at Indaba Spa?

Indaba Spa at Innisbrook Resort will occasionally feature a wrap as a special, but the majority of body treatments focus on scrubs and massages. However, there is one wrap that is always on the menu at the Florida spa: the Citrus-C Body Treatment. Forbes Travel Guide editors recommend this 50-minute treatment that includes a buff and scrub with fresh cucumber and peppermint, followed by a wrap with citrus, cucumber and peppermint. The scents alone will send you into a meditative state, but it’s the nourishing elements of these oils and scrubs that really make the wrap worthwhile. To finish, you’ll be drenched in a moisturizing vitamin C-rich grapefruit and peppermint lotion — leaving your skin feeling soft and smelling fresh.

What kinds of massages are offered at Indaba Spa?

Indaba Spa at the Innisbrook Resort has a wide variety of massages; indulgent and invigorating offerings that are designed to appeal to just about everyone. If you prefer lighter pressure, Forbes Travel Guide editors suggest Indaba’s Signature Massage. It’s a light-to-medium pressure massage that uses citrus lotions and oils to help revive your mind and muscles. The Hot Stone Massage, which uses heated basalt stones along with a Swedish massage, is also a light-to-medium pressure massage that works to loosen tight muscles.

For a deeper massage, opt for the Sports Massage or Deep-Tissue Massage. Both can be booked for 50- or 80-minute sessions. The Deep-Tissue Massage is meant to relieve tension in the muscles and joints that are causing pain, while the sports massage works out all the kinks and knots you created while exercising. Expectant moms can treat themselves to a 50- or 80-minute Pre-Natal Massage — the perfect way to reduce stress on your body. The therapist uses pregnancy support pillows that help the body relax.

If you’re short on time, Indaba Spa offers a few quick massages. Try the 25-minute Core Reflexology and allow your spa therapist to use the power of pressure points to help release tension. The Sunset Scalp Massage is a 25-minute treatment that focuses on the head and scalp to help you relax; it’s a great choice for headache sufferers. You can add the scalp massage on to any body or facial treatment.

Does Indaba Spa offer acupressure treatments?

If you’re in need of some acupressure at Indaba Spa, try the Core Reflexology treatment. This Chinese acupressure treatment can be booked for 25 or 50 minutes, and the purpose is to use pressure points to center your mind and body. During your treatment, your spa therapist will stimulate pressure points on your head, hands and feet to relieve tension and help the energy flow more easily through your body so you feel relaxed and at peace. On occasion, the Florida spa at the Innisbrook Resort might feature a Thai massage as part of the treatments featured each month. This massage uses stretching and pressure points to help open up the muscles and joints and relieve tension.

Does Indaba Spa offer massages or other treatments for kids?

The treatments at Indaba Spa cater to adults, but the Florida spa at the Innisbrook Resort does offer a menu just for teens. Young people between the ages of 10 and 17 can enjoy makeup applications, pedicures and manicures, plus haircuts and styles from the salon. Teenagers who are 16 or 17 can book a massage or facial, but a parent or guardian must accompany them during the entire service. There are no specific services on the spa menu for kids, but you can ask the spa concierge for some suggestions on what your little ones will love.  Our Forbes Travel Guide editors suggest the Ice Cream Social Manicure and Pedicure, which includes soaking in ice cream scented products and a real ice cream cone treat as a treatment that is sure to appeal to the young and the young-at-heart.
